Today's blog has been brought to you by...

Recently I've felt the need to blog. But I've been at a lack of things to say. I'm pretty good at going off on a tangent about random subjects so I asked my good friend, Jules, to give me something to talk about. And here it is:

Yellow.

I know I've mentioned that I don't have a favourite colour because I love them all (except green, sorry Trudy), but yellow has always had a special place in my heart. Generally I love warm colours the most, but yellow is the best because red is always associated with romance, which makes me barf; and orange, while it is bright and cheerful, can also be slightly obnoxious.

But yellow. Yellow is a happy colour and instantly brings a smile to my face. Except when it's a lemon, that brings a pucker, but think about it. The sun is yellow. The sun brings life. And life is - awesome. The sun is warm and and bright. And when it's sunny, I turn brown. What's not to love???

Here are a few of my favourite yellow things:

Yellow gum boots.

There was a girl in my high school who used to wear yellow gum boots all the time and it made me so happy. I used to have my own pair of yellow bootish type things, but then they got a crack in the heel, so now they are no more.

Dandelions.

I know they aren't the prettiest flowers, but when I was a kid I used make dandelion bouquets for my mom all the time, so it brings me happy memories. I hope my future kids will do the same thing for me.

Pineapple.

For some reason, when I was a kid, I wasn't a huge fan of pineapples. Now that I'm older, I love it! Usually when there's a fruit tray with pineapple on it, I will only eat the pineapple. Plus I've got a great story with pineapples to share with you. But I'll save that for another post...

In Living Colour

Anyone that knows me knows that I love colour.

Not because I'm coloured myself, but because - well - I don't know why I like colour, I'm just drawn to it. That's like asking a crow why they like shiny objects - they just do.

When I grow up and own a house, I want to paint the fence a hundred different colours. It'll probably look ridiculously tacky, but it will bring great joy unto my soul.

I would also love to spend some time in Newfoundland because you know what they have there? Colour. And lots of it. Their houses look so fantastic that I could totally see me painting my house a bright sunshiney yellow to go along with my multicoloured fence. Would it be clashy? Probably, but I'd love it.

Today as I was driving home from school and I saw a big ol delivery van drive right in front of me, and I loved its rims! They were painted a bright blue to go along with the blue colours in its logo and they brought me a little joy inside.
And now with springtime well on its way, I am so excited to be getting a little more colour outside rather than white.

Looking for Redemption

I am a horrible person. With this whole "minimal blogging" regime I've been carrying on, I completely missed blogging about one of my favourite subjects: Canada in all its awesome glory. Canada Day has come and gone and I wasn't here to say a word about it.

Canada is the best country in the world to live in. I've been to a few other places around the globe and they are all pretty cool, but still haven't topped the true north, strong and free. Canada has got it all: free healthcare; gorgeous mountains; big lakes; Tim Horton's; and unlike the Americans, everyone loves us! If I had to list only 10 things that I love about Canada, here's what I would put (in no particular order):

1. We're bilingual. Your country automatically seems cooler if it has two official languages. Now if I could just get around to actually learning French...

2. Loonies and Toonies. For some reason, having 10 dollars in loonies and toonies makes you feel richer than if you just had a $10 bill. Plus, there's a loon on one and polar bears on the other. How cool is that??

3. Multicoloured money. I love it when Americans rip on our coloured money, and now their money is gaining some colour too. Ha! Our 5s are blue, 10s are purple, 20s green, 50s red and 100s a browny-gold.

4. Our national animal is the beaver. The Americans have the majestic eagle, the English have the fierce lion and the Canadians? The beaver. I love it. They're cute and build dams. I mean, daaaayaamm, that's legit!

5. Hockey. We've got the best national sport. Ever. Well - the Aussies picked a pretty good one too (rugby). But I could be the most patriotic, red-blooded American and you still couldn't make me sit through a game of NFL football, or - heaven forbid - baseball. I shudder at the thought of being forced to watch a baseball game. For the love of all that is good in this world, please, anything but baseball. And you know what Johnny Lingo's favourite sport is? Baseball. I nearly dumped him right then and there when I found out that lovely little tid bit.

6. Perogies. I've been pretty tight with the missionaries that have come through in our ward for the last 6 months and one thing that they all say is that they love the perogies here. Americans don't have perogies. That is a crime against humanity! No wonder they always seem so grumpy, Krispy Kremes can't satisfy like a tasty dumpling stuffed with potatoes and cheese dipped in sour cream can. Mmmmm ^-^

7. Canada's really big. The Americans one-up us on everything: Population, economy, athletics, crime... But they will never be a larger land mass than us. And with our smaller population, we've got even more room to move around. Boo yah.

8. Tim Horton's. When I came back from Australia, the first thing I saw in the airport was a Tim Horton's stand. I hadn't seen one in a month and it was like Canada was saying to me, "Welcome back, have a donut." I always feel a little swell of patriotism whenever I see a Timmy's.

9. Our flag. So simple. So distinctive. So freakin' awesome. Red, white and a maple leaf. Who'd have thought that would be the recipe for the universal symbol of cool?

10. EHHHHH!!! I actually feel proud to be a Canadian whenever I catch myself or someone else slipping that into a conversation. How do you feel about that, eh? Take off, eh! How does a Canadian spell Canada? C-EH-N-EH-D-EH.

So what would your top 10 favourite things about Canada be? Are there things on my list that you wouldn't have put? Will you forgive me for not blogging this on Canada Day?

No Point in Trying

For those of you who don't know, Lethbridge gets the worst winds EVER. No matter how nicely you style your hair in the morning, the moment you walk out the door and into the 100km/hr wind, all your hard work goes to waste. You may as well roll out of bed with your hair all a-tangle and walk outside to let the wind style it for you. Either way, you get the same look as if you'd actually tried to do something with it before. At the University, you can tell who lives in rez on a windy day because they are the only ones with decent hair (unless they'd just rolled out of bed with ther hair all a-tangle).

Are you sick of me complaining? Sorry. Just one more and I'll be done: I don't like St. Patrick's day. Not to bash Ireland or the history behind the tradition, but I just don't like the colour green. I will wear green because it looks good on me, but that is the only tolerance I have for it. Why should green be so special? I think it's discrimination against the other colours if you ask me. AND, you don't even get a day off school for it. What kind of holiday is that???

Anyway, I wanted to try something new with my blog by doing a weekly segment. I'm not sure what I want to call it, so I think I'll have you folks vote. Here are your options: Wordy Wednesday, Wordly Wednesday, or Wordsy Wednesday. So leave a comment and let me know! I'll have made a decision by the next segment.*

As you might be able to tell by the name, I want to talk about words. The kind that we don't use anymore, to be exact. Today's word is: Bodacious. As in, "You are one bodacious babe."**

This word popped into my head this morning and I thought to myself, Why has that gone out of style? It is such an awesome word!

So I've done a little research and here's what I've found:

- Most experts believe it was created by combining "bold" and "audacious"
- It was used mostly in the 80's and 90's
- It can have multiple meanings, such as remarkable, courageous or audacious
- It can be used to describe a good looking guy or girl

Until I blog again, have a bodacious time!

* -Since this is my blog, if I don't like what you choose, I'm picking one on my own :P

** -500 points to whoever can tell me the movie that quote is from!
